The thing you have to realize about John Crichton is that he is completely insane!  He is so insane that he appears sane (somewhat).  When he starts acting insanely that is him coming back to his sanity.  At least that is the way I see it.  The only thing that you can be 100% sure of is that he loves Aeryn.
